McMillan Woods Global, through their CSR arm McM Cares, successfully organized the McMillan Woods 100,000 Steps Challenge at the Tropicana Metropark to raise RM100,000 for the National Council of the Blind, Malaysia (NCBM) and the additional funds are to support the Old Folks Homes.
McM Cares program has contributed over USD200,000 (RM812,900) since its inception to various charities. It aims to address the global challenges of climate change, education and poverty alleviation. Newly crowned Miss Cosmopolitan World First Runner Up Winner, Christine Chai as the Ambassador and Mr. Moses Choo, Executive Director of NCBM were present for the awards & closing ceremony.
50 braille machines were purchased for NCBM to assist the blind to communicate more effectively. In addition to that, McM Cares also successfully managed to raise additional funds to support the Old Folks homes in caring for the elderly.
Christine Chai, Ambassador of the McMillan Woods 100,000 Steps Challenge said, “A charity program like this is a good reminder to us all to take time out from our busy schedule and contribute back to society. McM Cares has done a phenomenal job at creating awareness of the blind people needs that is the braille machines, which greatly improves the life of the blind people. I am glad that I am able to do my part for the society.”
The 100,000 Steps Challenge is recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records for the achievers of the 100,000 steps, which is equivalent to travelling 75km, a daunting task that took a lot of perseverance and determination. Mr. Lim Guan Gin (65), a retired remisier, broke the record yesterday after a gruelling 15 hours walk in the name of charity through the beautiful urban greenery landscape of Tropicana Metropark. A total of 13 participants managed to be achievers of the 100,000 steps challenge.
The event is supported by Tourism Malaysia as it is categorized as an international event with participation from Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Indonesia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Iran, Albania and India.
“We, as an established organization, have our responsibilities to give back to the society and we do our best to raise funds, support and create awareness on global challenges. We have underwritten RM100,000 for the National Council of the Blind, Malaysia and any surplus to support the Old Folks Homes.
